Measuring Your Dog

To measure your dog, follow these five steps:

   1. Gather your tools:
      • Chalk or pencil
      • Pen and paper
      • Tape measure
      • Ask an assistant for help.

   2. Choose a wall where you can make your measurements. Check that the
chalk or pencil marks will erase once you’re done.

   3. Place your dog next to the wall in a normal standing position by placing
one hand under the chin and the other hand under the tummy. Give your
dog a little tummy rub and some soft words so that he or she will relax
        and stand tall.

   4. Ask your assistant to make the following marks on the wall behind the dog:

A: Top of the dog’s head
       B: Tip of the nose
C: Point where the tail meets the body.

   5. Give your dog a pat and let him or her go. Measure from:
      • Chalk mark A to the floor for the dog’s height
      • Chalk mark B to C for the dog’s length
